Cartridge Rolls For Deburring

Cartridge rolls are among the several types of deburring tools. They are often manufactured by wrapping abrasive cloth materials to specific-sized mandrel. There are many kinds of deburring catridge rolls. They include silicon carbide grain, aluminum oxide grain, or alumina grain. They are mostly configured for deburring, blending, polishing and deflashing. In most cases, fresh abrasive grain is on the outer layer of the cartridge. Such rolls are available in different lengths and sizes.

Such cartridge rolls are designed to be sturdy and long-lasting. They can be straight, half taper, full taper and sidewall. They are often attached to a hand-held deburring tool. Such rolls are effective in removing edge breaking and machine tool marks.

Generally, deburring is a finishing process used mostly in manufacturing and industrial settings. Parts and materials with burrs are smooth off. Burrs are protrusions, chips, shavings, nicks and other unwanted particles. They are mostly found on metal, plastic and wood surfaces. They are not considered to be parts of the original body. They need to be removed or smooth out to maintain product quality. It is also essential to obtain better functionality, appearance and better operations of the parts.

There are many ways to achieve deburring. They include hand deburring, semiautomatic deburring, abrasive flow machining, thermal energy method, electrochemical machining, high pressure water deburring, etc. However, only hand deburring and semiautomatic deburring uses cartridge rolls. In such cases, it involves a repetitive grinding or filing motion.

Take note that using cartridge rolls may take extra or even more effort. The process must be performed in a controlled or steady manner. Or else, the part or material will be thrown, which can cause you an accident or injury. Also, always remember to use fresh rolls. You have to change them before they wear out.
